My dreams are more vivid than reality, and I remember them all. I focus on analyzing the world of unconsciousness through dreams after which I unroll what the consciousness is really telling me onto the canvas. All the characters in my dream are part of the mental energy including their own anima, animus, and complex. The character are portrayed as hugging or being in contact with each other; they all look different, but connected as ‘one being’. My earlier works aimed to discover and analyze my internal wounds and complex. It was a period of looking back on the days that I couldn’t understand myself, and also an opportunity to pardon me for self-loathing. These stories are embodied in the characters’ appealing eyes and tattoos on their bodies. Through the interpretation of dreams and unconsciousness, my works reveal my personal concerns lingering deep inside me as well as the journey of overcoming them. As I began to confront my complex, my paintings started to change as well. The burdensome ties that had been pressing my mind gradually faded and I felt a little more comfortable. The paintings began to display tranquil eyes and softer colors. I was ready to abandon the anger as well as the fear for the world of the unconscious, and explore my own dreams with the mind of a traveler. I incorporate the symbolic characters in my dreams to illustrate the episodes in real life. The world of the unconscious and real-life are closely intertwined and well affect each other. One’s current thoughts and concerns are reflected into the unconscious, creating symbolic characters and objects. For instance, a person in my daily life appears as a particular character or an animal, and my emotional agitation translates into a thunderstorm. My recent work is categorized into two main series of ‘Chaos’ and ‘Fruit’. The ‘Chaos’ series represents the complexities of real life, consisting of small and significant matters. This series candidly depicts all kinds of human feelings and real life episodes in forms of symbolic characters. Then the ‘Fruit’ series is a story of overcoming the chaotic periods and tolerating the traumatic wounds. Only then one can relish the sweet, juicy fruit. The ‘Fruit’ series also contains two different features: ‘fruit’ and ‘pearl’. The fruit is yielded by enduring all kinds of weather and cumulating energy; it represents happiness, satisfaction and hope. The pearl is a more concrete, advanced form of a fruit. A pearl is a precious outcome of a shell tolerating all the impurities for a long period. Such pearl glows in a glorious luminosity that results from endurance. I wish to deliver comfort, warmth and hope through my paintings. The fruits of hope and the characters embracing each other inside the painting will bring love and comfort to the viewer, as well as to myself.
