Daily life is like an infinite universe of artistic inspiration. Many artists in history were inspired by the ordinary. The main subjects of my work also are the people in my surroundings because I discover an unlimited amount of aesthetics in them. My interest in everyday life started when I recognized the absence of innocence and honesty within this fast-paced modern society, followed by fatigue and a sense of emptiness. Living in a world where everything is so rapid, “daily life” may sound like a lavish term. However, it can actually be the most valuable experience. Living through a society of relentless competition, we have been distancing ourselves from the aesthetics of leisure, and only now that we are deprived of the ordinary are we beginning to notice its value. On the other hand, for some other people, the term “daily” might be something they wish to turn away from. It may refer to the unceasing survival from harsh and despairing life. The weight of hopeless reality constantly reminds them that their dreams are no more than just dreams. So they continue to move on. The lack of daily excitements leads us to a mental deficit, eventually causing anxiety and impatience. I brought attention to this antinomic quality of everyday life. Realizing that there always exists a moment for relaxation within the density of life equips us with the motivation to carry on. The subjects from a movie scene or a novel based on true stories often evoke in us a particular memory, experience, or imagination. The same can happen when looking at a single image; this explains how we get mentally connected through a piece of artwork. We can easily empathize with a character inside a movie or a novel, but only with that particular character. However, a single still image can embrace unlimited subjects. I aim to translate such ordinary subjects onto the canvas with my own style of painting. The anonymous characters who drink coffee, take a shower, or take a nap inside the painting can be my friends, family, lover, and even myself. This series of painting started by portraying my surroundings, but now it seems to conjure up my dormant ego. The swarming mass media in this contemporary world has made it challenging to communicate with honesty and innocence, and many of us live inside the virtual reality of smartphones. In that new reality, we only display what we want to show, and label what’s authentic as unfavorable and blamable. Thus, each individual’s humaneness has become so valuable and beautiful. Today comes to all those who have survived the repetitive daily life, and therefore the “normal” is the new “elegant”.
