“I have an Other-ache.” Roland Barthes delivers this romantic message through his book ‘A Lover’s Discourse’. In this phrase, both subjects belong to the same position to share the ache(pain). I’m in pain, and he’s in pain; hence we can meet. He and I encountered each other in pain, and therefore our relationship is deep. Every morning we encounter depressing news including accidents, disasters and famine etc. Such news is very discouraging and decreases the hope for the future. We all carry on with unfavorable memories, over which constant damages amass throughout life. Various circumstances and layers of life get tangled in disorder, thereby hurting the individuals and furthermore the entire society. Among the individuals living in this frantic modern society, the wounds often appear as obsessive-compulsive disorder. We are demanded to adhere to the society’s system which neglects any personal will, and such way of life accommodates and tames us to accept the common pain. Modern people seem to be destined to embrace both the hope for the future and the fear of getting hurt. My work is about my feelings and impressions on such common pain. I believe that everything in this world that is linked to me shares a piece of pain with me. My present self is part of the world, so the wounds I carry are beyond my own control. Eventually, the act of recording traces of wounds through my works is not merely an execution of emotions, but also an inclusive presentation of the structure and symbols of modern society.
