Abandoned stamps found in deserted houses often evoked a strange feeling in me as a child. Now that I realize, those stamps were a sign of existence directly connected with “life.” The name of a person sealed in a stamp holds eternity. With the belief that the accumulation of such names reveals some other significance, I have been employing stamps as the key medium for my work. A stamp is an object that contains human nature, and it is also a tiny image that represents a person. While my previous works referred to social relationships and the eternity of names, my latest works take forms of letter and ceramic engravings, although the message is not much different from that of the former. I have only further expanded the story of a person’s identity through fingerprint engravings and ceramic sculptures. The materials(stamps) in my work embody the historical episodes as well as my spirit; the materials and I have become one. In the state of unity of myself, stamps, and engravings, I attempt to unfold on the screen our traditions, nature, and the various faces of life. Also by cooperating with the history of lives and traces of time, I wish to integrate the past, the present, and the future in my paintings.
