Morphometry of Coincidence To draw a line, no matter how thin it is, involves dividing an infinite empty space. The divided spaces enable us to distinguish here and there, being and not being. Adding another line creates a plane, and planes create a space. Employing repetition and coincidence, I create spaces by letting the countless lines and colors overlap and touch each other. This process also reveals my imagination over the new spaces that occur where the lines intersect. Where the measured lines intersect, I often insert some motifs from a city such as pipes, windows, and chimneys to fabricate an architectural space. My focus is at the infinite expansion of space that begins with a single line. Let’s take a look at one of the paintings. It is composed of lines and planes, and the white pillar divides up the space into two parts, while a small object on the floor suggests that there exists another space. The red pipe to the right enables the visualization of the starting point and the endpoint. The line that appears outside of the window to the left may guide the viewer to question what exists beyond the screen. The numerous lines and small objects on the canvas form organic relationships with one another, expanding into the space. My work is the pursuit of diversity within a space.
