The series of my works that portrays the ‘endurance of life’ in painterly language starts off by observing various subjects and their lives through the lens of the ‘point of cynicism’. The ‘point of cynicism’ is where one is convinced to refrain from abstracted expectation and illusion about the future, as well as the pursuit of utopia. At this point, we begin to truly appreciate and devote to the moments of the present time and daily lives, thereby re-sensing the witnessed endurance of life. ‘Endurance’, often considered invisible and subjective, generally takes the form of trivial matters of everyday life when observed within the point of cynicism. On that account, my paintings involve ordinary and familiar subjects, for such unexceptional scenes indeed are the moments that hold our lifelong desired ‘happiness’ as well as the shelter that comforts our exhausted selves. The wish to take a departure from every familiar things that surround us and go on a search for excitement stems from the desire to recover from strenuous daily life. However we can genuinely savor the unusual moments of ‘breakaway’ only when we put up with the usual and trivial surroundings throughout life. Then the pursuit of departure, repeated consistently, may consequently transform into the new ‘usual’. Eventually the most significant part is ‘this moment’ at present. Today I face again the habitual incidents and subjects, hoping my creative gesture of painting enlivens the subjects unfurled ahead of me and at the instant of immersion, they get to live ‘now’.
