Reconstruction of Space The reality we live in is filled with invisible rules and disciplines, and we live by those rules. Such rules not only restrain people’s behaviors, but also standardize their thoughts and opinions. We seem to take a lot of things for granted and live with little doubt about them. Yet, I chose to examine this confined way of living. As an artist, I started the investigation on a rectangular canvas which I have always been familiar with. I attempted to break away from the standard shape of the canvas to discover new space and meanings in the process of deformation and reconstruction of the canvas. First, I disassemble the canvas, then transform it into different forms, and afterward reassemble the pieces into a new form to construct a new space. This is where my painting begins. Such reconstructed canvas well highlights the theme of my work painted upon it. The delicate and realistic portrayal of the subject matter using an airbrush signifies facing up to the reality and capturing the truth on the screen. “Nature” is how we see the world as it is. Water, stone, wind, tree, forest… Each and every element of nature resonates in our minds. In particular, trees very much resemble humans’ lives. The longer I gaze at them, the more they ring in my mind. Trees in my work are the symbol of great nature.
