A wooden chair Stranger wind, lingering clouds A quick drizzle, then a wild shower Rustling leaves with the sound of waves, sunlight captured in narrowed eyes A lonesome star, a passerby bird Crispy air that redden the tip of the nose, youthful leaves that glitter A replete silence, the sky in shades of blue And a pleasant dizziness Over a small wooden chair that lightly swings along the air The world we live in swarms with abundance. Consumer goods for convenience are being produced limitlessly, and the wave of information consistently pours in, whether or not it is requested. Yet among this profusion, we insist to be lonely. I pondered over why. The sense of loneliness emerges when someone is absent. It is not only about the absence of his ‘being’, but also about the absence of his ‘feelings for me’. One can also feel lonely even if there’s family or a loved one beside; they might understand him very well, but not as much as he knows about himself. To overcome such feelings of loneliness, we need time and space to face ourselves, but that isn’t so easy these days. I started the series in hopes of offering a resting place to those who are lonely and exhausted. Such resting place should be a shelter in which one can leave behind all the chaotic feelings, and where one does not have to worry about time and expenses. The small chair is placed up above a tree, inside a city garden, or over a faraway mountain. Then I put a portion of my mind on the chair. The place may be windy, rainy, chilly, or dark into the night, and seem a little solitary and precarious. No matter what, it’s only you and the ever-changing air, so just give yourself to the floating wind, even if for just a brief period of time. You will be left with a moment to face yourself, and relish a small comfort.
