I am interested in that simple visual stimuli arouse certain human desires. This phenomenon is well demonstrated by the thousands of “like”s devoted to the colorful food images on social media. In history, aristocrats in Western culture turned every food into pudding, just to make it visually pleasing, regardless of how it tastes. To expand on this conception, I explore various forms with industrial materials.
The same “casting” technique as when making pudding is used in the formation of my sculpture. The process of casting is somewhat controllable, but the outcome considerably depends on the state and mood of the material. I see that such irregularity resembles our lives.
Through my work process, a digital image is translated into a real-life sculpture by casting, then the image of the artwork returns to the digital world. My work aims to investigate this ironic cycle.
