As an artist, I have pondered about the meaning and role of showing artworks through exhibitions. I am curious about how art in daily life based on the philosophy and thoughts on humans combine our consciousness with science. I explore how it is controlled and reconstructed, and how such records change the concept of consciousness. Based on data research, I observe changes in human conceptual structure and emotions, and these studies serve as a means to experience art and imagination. This offers a different perspective on the role of an audience. My work documents the study on the ‘CPA(Critical Point Analysis)’ that belongs to the ‘CLI System(Consciousness Level Improvement System)’, then translate the outcomes into a visual work. It especially deals with the process of how CTR(Cerebral Traveler Robot) is experimented on animals for clinical purposes. Experiments on the animal brains are carried out with the goal of enhancing intelligence. My own experiment is only hypothetical that may either succeed or fail, but the significance lies in that it is an ‘artwork’ with scientific proof. In order to have certainty about the subjects and phenomena I encounter, I try to concretize the concept of consciousness onto the canvas, which might be otherwise immaterial. I believe that it gives my work and the role of art an infinite possibility. Rather than set rules in the use of media and materials when painting, I aim toward specific purposes through a multi-faceted approach as long as it creates appropriate images. The various results of experiments on the process of change in consciousness structure are collected to provide a proof to my hypothesis in the form of hyper-realistic paintings. The process of active research as well as the evolution and expansion of the consciousness structure is well demonstrated. I appropriated space images to signify the expansion and to imply the symbolic nature of consciousness; this suggests the infinite value of consciousness as well as demonstrating the potential expansion and convergence of diverse perspectives about life and consciousness. My recent work seeks to express the inference of non-material existence in more concrete forms. Through the study of the act of artmaking and materiality, I try to materialize the consciousness and its concept by disintegrating the material existence of subjects. I take a dichotomic approach of generating and then dismantling the existence of animals in experiments, therefore indirectly and ambiguously granting all kinds of values to the subjects. At the center of the work lies the human nature. The experiments seem to take a scientific attitude in documenting the animal experiment, but the main purpose is to explore human beings in rather allegorical manner. The subject of an exhibition can be either the artwork or the audience. Just as the viewer’s contemplation on the artwork induces shifting consciousness, the experiments within the work directly and indirectly communicate with the subject. I hope to overcome the deep-seated conventions of painting by actively using my work as a medium for settling concepts into images, as well as attempting to concretize the subjects through the meticulous documentation of experiments.
