Love series Lauren is a painter who works with both oil and acrylic, juxtaposing imageries to express the duality of people, objects, food, virtually anything one comes across throughout his or her life. Influenced by art movements such as Surrealism and Postmodernism, Lauren selects images and composes them to create new context, challenging viewers’ perceptions of reality and evoking viewers’ preconditioned attitudes of certain beliefs, expectations, and circumstances in present day life. In her most recent series, Love, Lauren paints a simple portrayal of a common, relatable story of a person's first love experience outside the family. It is a series of four paintings that depict the beginning of a continuous journey of self-discovery, such as overcoming, understanding, and accepting the limitations of love for another human being as well as the new and unfamiliar emotions faced in ever changing circumstances. The Love paintings evoke feelings of rebellion, happiness, sadness, fear, and other honest emotions a young adult may experience in a coming of age relationship. Her Love series is an extension of her ongoing painting themes, which involve diffusing beautiful images of celebratory items and objects, such as cakes, presents, champagne, and balloons. She questions the purpose of these beautiful items that are fleeting, short-lived entities; yet, are deliberately re-lived over and over again in one’s life. The questions that coexists throughout one’s life are: what is beautiful and what is meaningful. She also reminds viewers of the pure innocence of a child’s expectations in life that is inevitably transformed and tainted during the child's journey to adulthood.
