Focusing on the coexistence of pictorial touch and sculptural elements, I juxtapose an actual object with its shadow. I mainly apply the ‘Assemblage’ technique to combine the two distinct aspects of painting and sculpture, which will result in an unconventional form of art. The key subject in my work is the idea of ‘space’. Space is a three-dimensional concept, as it incorporates both positive space(the actual space an object occupies) and negative space(the exterior of the object). With the premise that space is about “the unoccupied”, I try to establish forms within space. This implicates my intention to develop ‘emptiness’ into ‘fullness’ and transform the physical space into a conceptual one. The folded canvas exhibits a feast of colors as its compositional order, rhythm and texture resonate in coexistence. The layers of different curves and surfaces create new forms, and the intervals of such forms bring rhythms into the space, displaying the dynamic movement of time. The air that occupies the space yields even more new spaces as it plays with the emptiness and fullness, opening and closing of various spaces. Summing up, different angles of lights that make different shadows, and the movement of the viewers as well as the current of air all unite in harmony to recreate spaces
