Discovery of the world - Little explorers’ reports
Growing up is the process of realizing the world. So everything is interesting to children.
I can see shining big oil tankers.
I can see the cranes pointing to the sky.
I can see red fire buckets.
I can see overhead coal tanks running and skipping over the wire.
I can see a big heap of coal.
I can see long round green oil tanks.
I can see a big ship, that is black and white.
I can hear the two o’clock hooter.
Chimneys, short ones, fat ones, little ones, tall ones and thin ones.

“This poem was composed by Sandra Cross, a seven-year-old poet,” my father told me. She reports in her poem that the world is very interesting.
We realize that coal tanks, a heap of coal, oil tanks, a ship, the two o’clock hooter and chimneys can be interesting and that chimneys have their own characteristics such as being short, fat, little, tall or thin. And we recall that we also once believed that the world is endlessly interesting.
Children remind us that we have lost many things – the curiosity about the world, the mind that is astonished by little things, the heart prepared to admire, and the adventurous spirit of trying new things.
