To think of a place brings to mind some memories. It recalls a person's face, an episode or an object either clearly or vaguely. Anyone might have experienced the same. People who form fluid relationships are left with unsettled memories. When the person who shares the memory leaves for good, the half of the memory fades as well. However the place remains. Even after we are gone, the place will always be there, retaining the images of ours. Then when we revisit the place we are prompted with some pieces of memory related to that place, and I imagine that’s because the place triggers those certain memory cells. I look at my memory just the way I look at a landscape. My memory is filled with the traces of my impressions on the world, and it is how I stay connected with the world. The memory is often the time, and often the place. I collect data from my daily life in the form of notes or photos, and after some time organize them into a scene that revives the emerging memories and my impression on the place from those memories. The exact image of the memory cannot be summoned, but I can approximate the original based on the data I’ve collected. Finally, the work is refined through the process of removing and accentuating some data after my subjective impressions. I hope that a portion of my painting develops into the background for your own memories.
