A movie is only a fiction, never a reality.
Yet as we watch movies, we shed tears, spill out anger, and burst into laughter.
Through such expressions of emotions that originate in reality, we get to live inside that certain staged moment of a movie, even just for a short while.
It is such an exciting moment to mix up scenes from different movies and then randomly place the characters in unfamiliar situations. Layering colors on them, I can make anything happen inside the new world. I’m not interested in portraying the landscapes and characters realistically, nor try to create a deep sense of space. I just stage my own scenes in my own way of putting on bright colors in a delightful manner. The resulting scenes are impossible in real life, and that may be why they excite me and brighten me up throughout the process of painting, just as we experience vicarious pleasure while watching a movie. I hope that the audience in front of my work experiences a pleasant and refreshing moment as well.
