The Portrait of the Unsettled ‘Imperfection’, is a fate passed onto any existence. It may be linked with the deficiency of sufficient love and understanding of others, as well as the immeasurable gap between defected subjects. An existence inevitably encounters imperfection as it desires and struggles to achieve perfection. All our inner selves converge at the notion of imperfection. People’s faces, body gestures and postures reveal something that lurk inside our mind. I discover from their bodies an imperfect vitality. When an imperfect being forms a relationship with the outer world, it is often stiff and frigid. Thus he is likely to be disdained and dismissed. He may wear nice clothes, somehow carry on with a comfortable life, or push himself into a crowd and brag about his physical strength. But in the meantime, sharp and rigid thorns on the inside will thrust out the thick skin and recklessly prick others as well as himself. My paintings on the imperfect and unsettled individuals are a concoction of some paragraphs that describe the inner world, anonymous images deprived of colors, and some narratives that are ordinary yet completely private. The resulting characters stand on their own, disclosing their weaknesses. They often love or turn away from one another. They pass through oppression and toleration, along with hatred and sympathy, to ultimately come to an agreement. Before the agony of life, their attitude is neither tragic nor comic. They just remain resolute, stating that the world is full of individuals like themselves, and that this illogical fiction might be the story of your own. We are told that one can arrive at one’s true self only through relationships. Those who do not even understand themselves stay hostile to one another and establish bizarre relationships. Through all that an individual ends up in the present self. I wish to understand how the individual’s mind evolves and has evolved. I also wish to establish the world in which the weak and distorted takes its own stance, and where we all come to accept, understand and love our imperfectness.
